Survival of Serena
We curate art for the yachts from a selection of artists we follow closely. Then when the yacht is sold it goes as a complete package and the art stays onboard. Carole A. Feuerman is one of our favourite artists. She is based in New York, born in 1945, and is one of the pioneers of the hyper-realistic sculpture movement, which began in the late seventies. Feuerman’s sculptures portray models in a life-like manner, her subject is the human figure – most often a woman – portrayed using a range of materials, from bronze and marble to vinyl and painted resins.
Feuerman uses her art to tell stories of strength, survival and balance through visual manifestations, and seeks to connect with viewers evoking engagement and emotion. If you have seen her work, you will remember it. Many of her pieces are lifelike models of swimmers looking very serene and reflective with their eyes closed and droplets of water rolling off them. But dig a little deeper and there is quite a story behind the sculptures. We keep going back to her work for the realism and the rapport we feel with it.
The sculpture pictured here is onboard ALYSSA. Originally this piece, featuring the torso and arms of a woman resting her ahead on an inner tube, was called Innertube Variant II. It has been made and remade since the 1980’s in many forms, coming to be known as Survival of Serena. We purchased a mini version for the yacht.
Feuerman says the original idea for this piece came from when she was living in Key West, Florida, in the late seventies, “I saw Cuban asylum seekers floating to shore on rafts they had strapped together out of inner tubes and driftwood. I was greatly affected and made Survival of Serena.”
We have also purchased other pieces. The sculpture entitled Balance is a tranquil portrayal of a woman who looks like she just got out of the water and is meditating. This was placed on HIGHLIGHT.Tansu Yacht also has ‘General’s Daughter’ in his own collection.
Carole Feuerman’s work continues to be exhibited around the world and is in numerous permanent collections, both public and private. Works can be seen in galleries, parks and museums worldwide. We definitely recommend making an effort to see these stunning sculptures. The website is the best place to learn more about her work and exhibitions. http://www.carolefeuerman.com
FLEET NEWS Cyclone
The latest addition to the Tansu fleet is 43.7m motor yacht Cyclone. Delivered in 2017, she was designed and built by Tansu Yacht. Cyclone is a yacht destined to appeal to a younger generation of yacht buyers – unfussy, simple and spacious with a strong sense of identity. She is also an award-winning yacht, being crowned the winner of the 2018 Boat International Design and Innovation awards for yachts below 45m. Cyclone has been acclaimed for having bold lines together with sparseness of detail which impressed the judges.
The exterior of the yacht has sleek lines with the yards trademark military styling including silver topsides, an emphasis on straight lines and rectangular portholes. When Cyclone is docked alongside other motor yachts her large open aft deck is a stand out feature for alfresco living. When onboard the yacht the minimalist styling and open plan living creates an inviting sense of space.
Phil Duffy from Interface Marine surveyed Cyclone and noted, “After over ten years of surveying Superyachts, I was delighted to inform our client that the Tansu built Motor Yacht Cyclone was one of the best designed and quality built vessels I have inspected, Cyclone is the worthy winner of the Boat international design and innovation award 2018, and I look forward to seeing the next generation of Tansu Yachts.”
Cyclone’s guest quarters are below deck together with the galley and crew quarters. On the upper deck is the owner’s suite. Making the total capacity of the yacht eight guests and five crew members.
Coming in at well under 500GT means Cyclone eliminates the need for much of the red tape associated with having a larger vessel and is able to berth at most marinas and ports.
Cyclone was sold to new owners in 2018.

Cyclone Sold!
Designed in celebration of Tansu’s 20th year, award winning CYCLONE is another milestone in our endless search for simplicity. Congratulations to all involved and wishing a very happy summer to her lovely owners.
Ceylan sold to her new owners
The first of Tansu Tigershark Class, Superyacht Ceylan was delivered in 2010. After 8 years she was listed for sale with Baris – Alev Semiz of Sofi Yacht Charter & Brokerage, with Alain Auvare of Onboard Yachting introducing the buyer. The asking price was €6,450,000. Another successful deal proving our high resale value. Thanks to everyone involved and wishing all the best to the new owners.
Cyclone is the Winner in Boat International’s Design and Innovation Awards 2018
Cyclone has won the Golden Neptune in her category, “Best Exterior Styling – Motor Yachts Below 45m” in Boat International’s Design and Innovation Awards 2018. The award ceremony was held in Kitzbühel, Austria. We would like to thank all involved. Below is the Judges’ comment about Cyclone:
“You can’t mistake the hand of Tansu Yacht in Cyclone’s bold lines evoking comparison with minesweepers and fast coastal patrol cutters as this signature look has brought this designer/builder prizes on previous occasions. But on top of the sparseness of detail and clean horizontal lines, this year judges noted a softer side to the styling with a bit more rake to the bow that reverses at the top to create a touch of tumblehome and a hint of a sheer curve as it moves aft. The design continued to impress the judges with introduction of sloped forward glass on two decks and the absence of eyebrows altogether. The superstructure is nicely integrated within the profile and provides plenty of both open and protected outdoor living space while actually increasing the interior volume available to the owner.”
CYCLONE in Rapallo after a 1400NM super successful shakedown cruise
Following an intensive sea trial period in Istanbul, the 43,7m CYCLONE has arrived in Rapallo, Italy. Her Mediterranean season will start with the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. Later she will be cruising around Costa Smeralda, Capri, Amalfi Coast and Balearic Islands before attending the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show.
Captain Dylan Brown commented: “Once again myself and crew including Engineers from Tansu found ourselves heading towards Europe on Tansu’s new build M/Y Cyclone. Crossing from Turkey in late December always brings a mixture of weather and we found ourselves in 45kts wind, 3,5 Meter waves to flat calm seas. Throughout all conditions the vessel preformed beyond all of my expectations and handled rough to calm seas with ease. During our journey of 1400NM we experienced no technical or mechanical faults and are now berthed in Rapallo, Italy. Tansu yachts can be proud of the build and finish of Cyclone and she will be a great presence in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Thank you to all involved in getting Cyclone to Europe and my crew for their dedication and hard work”

“In 4 months including Monaco Yacht Show and a photo shoot in Cannes, myself and my crew are very pleased with the finish and performance of this vessel. During the season we have encountered all kinds of weather, the stand out day being 56 knots wind with 4-5 meter waves crossing the Golf Du Lion, as you can imagine this was not a comfortable day, but she handled these trying conditions with ease, her stability at sea is greatly due to the new hull design which has been evolved from M/Y Nomade. I would like to thank Everyone at Tansu for delivering a beautiful seaworthy vessel and to my crew for all their hard work.”

NOMADE wins Gold Neptune
Nomade (Now Bartender) is the winner of ShowBoats Design Awards.
Interior Design award – Displacement Yachts 30-59.99m
“One of the most frequently quoted sayings in the world of design is “Less is more” – Advise that was uttered by the great German-American architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Mies would certainly have approved of Tansu’s design for the interior of Nomade, an explorer yacht that was recently sold to the owner of the super-racer Firefly as a mothership, and aptly renamed Bartender. This opinion was shared by the ShowBoats Design Awards Jury, who felt that the elegant minimalism, functionality and practicality of her interior eminently matched her new role. Light and airy interior spaces emphasize her volume, while her modern yet comfortable furnishings and finishes that blend contrasting gloss lacquer with “beach house style” oak floors provide particularly tasteful living spaces.”
NOMADE Sold
Nomade is sold by David Legrand at Fraser Yachts with independent broker Derk Rolff introducing the buyer. The new owner, founder of a successful fashion brand, was looking for a support vessel for his fast sailing yacht, 115ft Firefly. He chose Nomade for her contemporary style and expansive deck areas.

David Legrand, Hubert Muhlbacher, Tansu Yacht, Emelie Richter, Dylan Brown, Anthony O’Shann, Marthinus van der Merwe – right after the closing of the deal, Port Adriano, Mallorca.
